How It Works

Sofia’s Pyramid™: A Global Learning Initiative

Sofia’s Pyramid was created as a free lesson. It requires no internet, no budget, and works with whatever materials are on hand: mud, trash, cardboard, recyclables, Lego, sugar cubes — anything.

The lesson was inspired by Sofia, an imagined yet relatable 10-year-old girl from the mountains of Oaxaca, Mexico. Through Sofia’s story, children experience the joy and confidence that comes from building something with their hands, telling their own story, and sharing it with others around the world.

The idea is simple: turn a short, creative building activity into a shared worldwide experience. There is no competition and no “perfect” pyramid—every child’s creation is celebrated for the effort, creativity, and participation.

Sofia’s Pyramid is designed to be:

  • Low-cost or completely free (using whatever safe materials are available at home or in the classroom)
  • Quick and easy — a ready-to-use 45-minute lesson perfect for ages 8–14
  • Supportive of STEM skills, engineering thinking, pattern recognition, cultural awareness, self-expression, confidence, and a sense of global belonging

The official worldwide launch is set for September 22, 2026. Early builders can start now!

At the heart of the lesson is Sofia’s message: “Your pyramid doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be yours.”

Step 1: Build Your Pyramid

Use any safe materials, such as:

  • Building blocks
  • Paper or cardboard
  • LEGO® or other bricks
  • Sand
  • Recycled materials
  • Or anything else that’s safe and sparks their creativity!

There is no wrong way to build a pyramid — the goal is to have fun and be creative.

Step 2: Take a Photo or Video Please help the child take a clear photo of their finished pyramid or record a short video.

Helpful tips:

  • Make sure the pyramid is easy to see in the frame
  • Keep the camera as steady as possible
  • Focus only on the pyramid (please avoid showing children’s faces)

Step 3: Go to the Submit Page Visit: Sofiaspyramid.com/submit

Step 4: Fill Out the Form You (or the child with your help) will be asked for:

  • The child’s first name or a nickname
  • Their age
  • Their country

Step 5: Upload the Photo or Video. Click the upload button, select the photo or video of the pyramid, and press “Submit Your Pyramid”.

Step 6: Watch the Global Counter Grow! When the submission is complete, the global counter will increase. Every submission helps show how many pyramids around the world are being built!

Important Safety Guidelines

Submissions must be made by: A parent, educator or legal guardian

As the supervising adult, please ensure:

  • Only first names or nicknames are used — never full names
  • No personal information or specific locations are shared
  • Photos and videos focus only on the pyramid and remain kind and friendly
  • All activity stays safe, positive, and age-appropriate
